Isaiah H. found himself in the same situation many other young adults face: an uncertainty of how to break into the workforce. He found himself in a fellowship program for a nonprofit, and then was referred to CAP OC’s Workforce Development (WFD) Program by his employer. When you don’t have a clear direction of your career goals, the job hunt can be overwhelming.
“One sort of experience I had going through the program was a feeling of relief when I sat down and narrowed down what kind of things I wanted in a career and what kind of things they didn’t want. It was nice to know I don’t have to apply for everything; I have a choice and learned what to focus on,” Isaiah shares.
Throughout our WFD program, Isaiah has learned valuable skills that has given him confidence, such as: how to make yourself more presentable during interviews and how to properly format your resume and to also include keywords from the job posting. He has even taken what he has learned and shared it back with his community.
“I’ve been able to take skills that I’ve learned from the program, and I’ve been able to pass them along to friends who are exploring different career path. Even to my dad who is currently unemployed right now. I showed him what Indeed was and how to reformat his resume,” Isaiah says.
With a clearer vision of his career path and a stronger skillset for the job hunt, Isaiah feels empowered to continue his job hunt. He plans on taking more interview workshops to further increase his confidence with the interview process and hopes to find a job in Human Resources or Social Work.
