Reducing Youth Access to Tobacco in La Habra – August 2021 Success Story

During the month of August, the Reducing Youth Access to Tobacco Program partnered with the La Habra Police Department to answer questions that coalition members had related to tobacco prevention efforts in schools. The Vape Free La Habra adult coalition met with Officer Viramontes, School Resource Officer from Sonora High School on August 13, 2021. Officer Viramontes shared about the process of confiscating e-cigarettes from students and about the resources available to parents and students. The La Habra Teens Against Vaping youth coalition met with Officer Viramontes, Officer Willard, SRO from La Habra High School, and Officer Boss, SRO from Imperial Middle School on August 27, 2021. The School Resource Officers shared about the importance of making good choices, about the harmful effects of addiction, and about what can be done to prevent their peers from getting hooked on nicotine and other drugs.
