Clementine Turns 2

Clementine the Mobile Food Trolley turns 2 today! We can’t believe how quickly time has flown by. For those who have not been acquainted with her, Clementine is a 2005 workhorse trolley repurposed to be a mini-market on wheels. Every month, she visits up to 16 distribution sites in Orange County and carries enough food to serve 60 families per distribution.

This past year changed how many of our programs were structured, and Clementine was no exception. Rather than inviting families on-board to shop, we decided the safest way to continue the program would be to change the shopping to a Grab-n-go premade kit distributions, as well as offer drive-thru distributions. Families continue to receive food boxes filled with pantry stable food items like pasta, rice, canned meats, and other important items like milk, cheese, and frozen meat.

Clementine not only served more families in 2020 compared to 2019 (an increase of 42%) but also provided more pounds of food to the community (an increase of 153%).

In an era with record food insecurity and unemployment, we are proud to have offered this unique and much needed program to our community for the past two years.
